Easy Text --- in MS-Works Word Processor
With this feature, you can automatically insert text
into your documents. It’s a powerful tool and surprisingly simple to use.
Once you have typed the text in your document (and
formatted it the way to would like it to be), then you highlight the text
– under the EDIT menu, you will find EASY TEXT. The highlighted text will
appear in the Easy Text screen. You can then give it a name. Now when you
are ready to use this text, just choose EASY TEXT from the INSERT menu.
Creating a Report ---- in MS-WORKS Database
Once you have created your database and you wish to
design a printed output, go to the TOOLS menu and choose REPORT CREATOR.
Give your report a name. Then you will be presented with various settings
for your report --- ranging from title of the report, which fields to place
in it, how to sort it, etc.
Another tip from TipWorld – Creating a file of your
directories
Would you like a printed copy of the directories on
your hard drive – or maybe a file that you could review what files were
on your computer last week that you can compare to today?? Well, we have
to go to DOS (the DOS PROMPT) in order to do this. Here are a few commands
that you can then use.
DIR C:\WINDOWS\ /AD/S > PRN
DIR C:\WINDOWS\ /AD/S > C:\DIR_LIST.TXT
These commands will send to the printer or create a file named "Dir_List.TXT"
of all of the directories under your Windows directory.
DIR C:\ /S >PRN
DIR C:\ /S > C:\LIST2.TXT
These commands will send the listing to the printer or create a file
named "List2.TXT" of all of the directories and files on your hard drive.
Clearing or Checking Your Print Buffer
To see what your print buffer holds – or if you wish
to delete something before it is sent to the printer --- try this.
Click MY COMPUTER and select the PRINTERS folder.
Double-click the icon of the printer you’re using. You should see the names
of the documents that are waiting to go to the printer. If you wish to
delete one of these documents from printing, then highlight that document,
from the DOCUMENT menu, choose CANCEL PRINTING.
CD-RW Technology
Once the data has been burned on a CD-RW (rewriteable),
the amorphous (altered) areas reflect less light, so aiding the drive’s
ability to detect the difference between the lands and the pits
on the disk. One compromise here is that the disc reflects less light than
CD-ROMs or CD-Rs and consequently CD-RW discs can only be read on CD
players that support the new MultiRead specification. Even DVD-ROM
drives, which themselves use the UDF file format, need a dual-wavelength
head to read CD-RW.
Here is a good web address where you can find information
on CD-R and CD-RW.

Humor – Ted sends these along
Hello Gang: Here's your weekly dose of humor. I think
these were conjured up by women. They all pick on us poor men.
Why are all dumb blonde jokes one liners?
So men can understand them.
What's a man's idea of helping with housework?
Lifting his legs so you can vacuum.
