No-Frills Browsing
(from Yahoo, September, 1998)
If your Net connection is extremely slow ---- or if you’re going online only to retrieve sports scores, stock quotes, or health tips ---- you can gain some speed by turning off your browser’s graphics capability for that surf session.
In Netscape Navigator 3.0, go to "Options", and uncheck "Auto Load Images". In Navigator 4.0, go to "Edit", and then choose "Preferences". Double-click on the "Advanced" category. Uncheck "Automatically load images." In Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0, go to "Preferences" and then choose "Web Content". Uncheck "Show Pictures". In Internet Explorer 4.0, go to "View" and then choose "Internet Options". Click on the "Advanced" tab, and uncheck "Show Pictures".
If you want to load a particular image in this graphics-less mode, all you have to do is right-click on it, and choose "Load This Image" or "Show Image".
Hotmail has Virus Checking on Attachments
Hotmail, one of the many free email accounts that are offered on the internet, has added the ability to have your attachments scanned for virus’ before you open them or save them. That’s a very nice feature. I have checked the other free email accounts, but I would assume that they are all doing the same thing.
