Excel Explains why you placed that figure on your spreadsheet
You can place a comment or explanation about a figure (or cell) in your spreadsheet. Place your cursor in the cell that you wish to add the comment to, right click and choose INSERT COMMENT. This opens up a small window for typing. The window can be resized to accommodate the text that you wish displayed. When you are finished typing, then click outside of the box. The comment box disappears and there is a red triangle (upper right corner) placed in the cell that has the comment. When you move your cursor to these cells, the comment will be displayed. If you wish to display all of your comments at once, you can go to the VIEW menu and choose COMMENTS. To turn the comments off, again go to the VIEW menu and choose COMMENTS. To delete a comment, right click on the cell and choose DELETE COMMENT.

Program List Too Long ---- Organize It !!
When your program list starts to get so long that you can no longer see the top or the bottom of the list and you are continually scrolling to find the program that you wish to run ----- THEN IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO ORGANIZE IT.
First you will notice that the list does not alphabetize (In Windows 95 it does but in Windows 98 it does not) when you add a new program. So one way to help you organize your program list is to get them alphabetized. You do this in WINDOWS 98 by left clicking on a program file or folder holding the mouse button down while you drag it to the location that you would like it.
To organize your program folders, it helps to make new folders (or categories) to place all your music programs or graphics programs or flight simulator programs or utility programs together. To do this in Windows 95 or Windows 98, right click on the START button choose OPEN. Double click on the PROGRAMS folder to open it. You will now see the folders and files that are in the Programs Menu. Think of some categories that you would like. Then right click in this window on an empty spot and choose NEW from the menu. Then choose FOLDER. You will see a new folder and the words NEW FOLDER highlighted. Because it is highlighted, you can start typing the name of your category folder and then press ENTER. Repeat this process until you have all of the new categories that you want. Now, right click on one of the program folders that you wish to move into one of the new categories and choose CUT. Now double click on one of the new category folders to open it and then right click on an empty spot of the window and choose PASTE. One folder has been moved. Repeat this procedure until you have completed the organization of your program folders.
Make Your Mouse a Lefty Friendly Mouse
If you are lefthanded you can reconfigure your mouse to become a lefty friendly mouse. Open the Start Menu, move up to Settings, click CONTROL PANEL, and then click MOUSE. On the Buttons tab, choose left-handed . Then click OK. Once you make your change, the right button will probably click, drag, and select, while the left button will produce a text-sensitive pop-up menu.
After you do this, you must remember that everything you read about clicking a mouse button will be the opposite.
Your Dialer no longer opens when you start Netscape
From time to time it seems like our dialer no longer comes up when we start Netscape. If this happens to you, check this setting.
From the Start button, choose SETTINGS then CONTROL PANEL then INTERNET. Click on the CONNECTIONS tab. If it has a DOT next to Connect to the Internet using a Local Area Network change it to Connect to the Internet using a Modem. Be sure to press the OK button to exit the window. That should bring your dialer up when you first open Netscape.
If You Are Being Disconnected From the Internet Check This Setting
We still hear from many people about being disconnected from the internet quite often and the first thing they say is why is their Internet Provider doing this. I mentioned this before (but I am going to mention it again) Internet providers do not have a practice of constantly disconnecting an individual from their service.
Now, I am going to tell you about a setting that might cause some of these problems. From the START button choose SETTINGS then CONTROL PANEL then INTERNET. Click on the CONNECTIONS tab then the SETTINGS button. If there is a checkmark in front of "Disconnect if idle for" remove it. That might solve some of your problems. And be sure to press the OK button to exit the window.
Using the Windows 95/98 Start-Up Disk
Contrary to its name, the Win95 or Win98 startup disk will not fully restart Windows. What the startup disk does is get you to a DOS prompt.
Someone with basic DOS knowledge can often do some fixes from the DOS prompt. If you read the file on your WIN98 system called C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\EBD\README.TXT, itll give you quite a few things you can try at the DOS prompt. Unfortunately, these tricks arent exactly easy to perform, and they clearly show why expertise in DOS is by no means obsolete even in this age of Windows.
If Windows stops working, neither you nor a good technician will be able to get it up and running just by using the startup disk. However, from the DOS prompt you can do several important things. First, you can usually copy critical data files from your hard drive to diskettes or other external disks before they completely disappear into never-never land. Second, you may be able to get the CD-ROM drive running so you can use the Win98 installation CD to reinstall Windows.
Coupons on the Internet
We had the grandchildren here from Delaware for a few weeks and decided to take them to Wonder Works (an interactive science museum on International Drive). We went on the internet to find their hours, prices and directions to get there. To our surprise, we found that they had a $1.50 off coupon that we could print and take with us to enjoy the savings. We also decided to take them to Silver Springs visited their web page and found a coupon for $5.00 off.
So, this is another use for the internet.
AOL Attaching Pictures
(instructions from Hughs sister)
Start with the Write Mail in front of you and your message written.
Click on Attachments - a box will appear and click on attachments in that box.
Another menu will appear with "download" as the location. You may browse through using the little yellow square with the enter arrow in it, this easily gets you to the next level of menus, to find the folder where your file is located, either text or picture. When you locate the file to be attached, click on the open button. You will then be returned to the attach box, where you click on OK.
You should see next to attachments at the lower left of the e-mail screen an icon of a disk, at this point you may send your e-mail. If the icon is not there then you need to repeat the process, remembering to click on OK .
The last thing you will see is the uploading bar, giving you a pictorial report of the process and then the note "Your mail has been sent".
