MS-Word – Tabs

    If you are typing columns of numbers while in MS-Word and you are trying to align them to the right as is customary with numbers, then you should set your tab to right alignment.
    To do this, choose FORMAT from the top menu, then TABS. This opens up the Tabs Windows. Enter the position (in inches) where you would like the column to be aligned and then click on the dot next to right under the alignment.

E-Mail Filters

    Use your email filters to stop unwanted email from coming into your Inbox. You will find the filters in Netscape under EDIT then MESSAGE FILTERS. In Outlook Express, they are under TOOLS then INBOX ASSISTANT. Here you will be ask to add a new filter. The next screen brings you up many possible circumstances for choosing which incoming emails are moved to another folder, placed in the trash folder and simply deleted.

Deleting Documents from the Documents menu

    To remove all the documents from the documents menu – right click on the task bar and choose PROPERTIES. Click on the tab entitled START MENU PROGRAMS. Click the CLEAR button to remove the contents of the documents menu.
    To remove selected documents from the documents menu – go to Windows Explorer. Double click on the Windows directory (folder). Double click on the Recent directory (folder) under the Windows directory. These are the names of the documents that appear in the documents menu. You may delete any of them that you wish. They are just shortcuts to the original documents so you will not be deleting your documents.

Do I use OK or APPLY

    If the window that you have open has an OK button and an APPLY button – they both accomplish the same thing. The APPLY button will make the changes take effect AND leave your window open to make further adjustments. The OK button will make the changes take effect AND close the window for you.

Display Properties

    A quick way to get to your display properties is to click with the right mouse button on your desktop. Then choose Properties.
Background – This is your wallpaper or your desktop background. You may use any picture that is a BMP for this. Just place it in your Windows directory.
Screen Saver – Keep this setting to a minimum of 15 minutes.
Appearance – The ability to change all of the color settings. Example, the title bar of the active and inactive windows.
Settings – the number of color that you can display (256, high color [16 bit], or true color [24 bit]). The resolution (640 by 480 – 800 by 600). The size of the icons (small or large).

SEND TO

    There is a directory under Windows that is entitled SendTo. This directory will list the various destinations that the right mouse button menu will allow you to send files to. If you go to this directory (using Windows Explorer or My Computer) – you can create a shortcut to any location that you wish. From the right mouse button, choose New and Shortcut. Type in the name of the drive and directory that you wish to use, click Next and then give your icon a name using normal conventions – examples, c_data would stand for c:\data -- or c_pictures would stand for c:\pictures.
