Send Money Over Email
03/08/00 (Reuters – from financial story on the Internet)

Before you delete your umpteenth email, make sure someone isn’t sending you $20 electronically.
Bank One Corp. has launched a system that lets people send money to each other over electronic mail, using checking accounts, Visa credit or debit cards, or checks.
At the eMoneyMail Website, http://www.emoneymail.com, people enter their checking account or Visa card numbers, and send email to another person that transfers up to $500 to the person’s checking account or Visa balance. The recipient also can opt for a check in the mail. People sending money over email pay $1 to transfer funds to a checking or Visa account while the recipient pays nothing. There is a $1 fee when a check is mailed, Bank One said. The money is credited the next business day to a Visa account and in one to two business days through a checking account.
Bank One is powering the eMoneyMail site, but people can transfer money to and from accounts at any bank in the United States. So far, the system cannot be used internationally. Bank One said it is looking at international expansion.

Faster Chips
(by John G. Spooner – ZDNN from MSN-NBC – March 2, 2000)

1GHz chips are coming. Both Intel and AMD will begin shipping 1GHz processors for desktops by end of this month, sources say
"WE’RE SUPPORTING 1GHz Pentium III," said Hewlett-Packard Co. spokeswoman Erin Farrel on Thursday. "We will be shipping consumer models (in HP’s Pavilion line) starting later this month … and most likely shipping corporate (desktop PC) models in June."
"We are going to have a (Dimension) product," said Dell spokesman Andy Prince. "We don’t have a date yet." While dates are not final, it is likely that Dell will have its 1GHz Pentium III-based Dimension PC out by the end of the month as well.
AMD, for its part, doesn’t plan on getting beaten by Intel. Company spokesman Drew Prairie said, "We plan to introduce the faster-frequency Athlon processors our customers want in a timely time frame."
With the 1GHz chip coming by the end of the month, AMD’s 900MHz and 950MHz Athlon chips will be announced at the same time as the 1GHz Athlon, sources confirm.
Intel, sources said, is planning to announce its 850MHz and 866MHz Pentium III chip in the latter half of this month. It is unclear when the company’s 933MHz Pentium III will be announced, but with the 1GHz chip coming at the end of the month, sources say it is possible the four chips will be announced on or about the same date. Intel officials, however, refused to comment on specific launch dates. When asked, they reiterated a commitment to launch the 1GHz Pentium III shortly.
