This Week’s Program

Greeting Cards – Hallmark and American Greetings. Take a look at importing photos and additional clipart into your cards and how to use the graphics from one program in the other program. You can make your calendar in these programs.
Greeting card programs are quite handy to have. You can create your own greeting cards to send to family members or friends – you can create calendars – you can create an address book to be used for printing envelopes, labels and Christmas letters.

Exporting Clipart from Hallmark Card or American Greetings

If when you are designing your greeting card, you come across an interesting piece of clipart that you would like to use on a scrapbook page you are designing in another program – you can do it.
If you select the clipart after you have it placed on your greeting card and then press the COPY button to the left of the card – you will find that it is stored on the clipboard. Check another program and see if the PASTE feature is available – and then paste it into this program. IrFanView (the small photo editing program that we talk about from time to time) works very well in doing this. Once you have it into IrFanView, you can save it to your hard drive as a JPG and then it is capable of being brought into any program.

Hallmark Card Studio

Calendar
Hallmark allows you to create a calendar – not as many choices as WORD or PUBLISHER had, but it is customizable so that you can add your own pictures.
To design your own calendar, choose ART STUDIO and you will be presented with projects that you can start from scratch, including four calendar layouts. Once you have determined your layout, you will be able to design your own calendar by adding your own pictures and captions.

Address Book
This program has an address book which might be quite helpful to many of you who have ask about address books and putting the names on labels, etc.
To get to the address book, click on EVENT PLANNER (from the home page or at the bottom of any page that you are on) and then choose ADDRESS BOOK. You can add an individual or you can group family members together by adding a family. It will allow you to enter names, email addresses, mailing addresses, how you would like the mailing name to appear, birthdays, anniversaries and additional notes. You can print the information out.

Labels and Envelopes
Once you have enter your information into the address book, you can easily use that information to print your labels and envelopes. Also when printing labels, it will allow you to determine which row and column to start the labels – this is a very good feature.

American Greetings CreataCard

There are so many versions of this program, so the one that I am going to be using is the Silver 5 version.

Calendar
American Greetings also allows you to create a calendar. To make a calendar, choose START FROM STRATCH from the Main Menu Screen – then choose CALENDARS. Just follow the little wizard to help determine your layout and from there, you can customize it to suit you.

Address Book
American Greetings does have an address book – but it is not available in the CreataCard Silver 5 version, so I can’t really report on this feature.
I did look in the HELP file – and it does tell about the address book. It will allow you to import and export your information in the form of a comma delimited file (this is a standard that is used by databases and even spreadsheets).
The program also allow you to customize the printed output of the address book. The information from the address book can be easily put on the labels and envelopes in the program.

Dr. Seuss Explains Computer Crashes

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted at a very last resort,
and the access of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report.

If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
and the double-clicking icon puts Your window in the trash,
and your data is corrupted cause the index doesn't hash,
then your situation's hopeless and your system's gonna crash!!

If the label on the cable on the table at your house says the
network is connected to the button on your mouse, but your
packets want to tunnel to another protocol, that's repeatedly
rejected by the printer down the hall, and your screen is all
distorted by the side effects of gauss, so your icons in the
window are as wavy as a souse; then you may as well reboot
and go out with a bang, 'cuz sure as I'm a poet, the
sucker's gonna hang!

When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy in the disk, and the
macro code instructions cause unnecessary risk, then you'll have to
flash the memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM. Quickly turn off
the computer and be sure to tell your Mom!

WELL! That certainly clears things up for ME
