Internet Options for Internet Explorer
In Internet Explorer, choose
TOOLS from the main menu and then INTERNET OPTIONS. On the last tab entitled
ADVANCED, you have a lot of choices for customizing the way Internet Explorer
handles and displays web pages to you. Which of these items should have
check marks and which ones shouldn’t? These are your decisions.
Show Go Button in Address
Bar (this gives you a button to click on
after entering a web address rather than hitting the ENTER key on the keyboard).
Show Internet Explorer
on the Desktop (If you want or don’t want an icon for Internet Explorer
on your desktop).
Show the Radio Toolbar
in Internet Explorer (Does what it says – displays the Radio
toolbar in Internet Explorer if you wish)
Empty Temporary Internet
Folder When Browser is Closed (A good housekeeping method of helping
to keep your hard drive clean).
And many others.
AOL Password Stealing Virus
Recently AOL again mentioned
about a password stealing virus that usually comes with a subject line
of "Hey You". It is spread through e-mail and installs itself on your system.
It then attempts to steal your account name and password and forward them.
It also tries to replicate itself to the active AOL Buddy List.
This is a known Trojan.
It is received as an attachment (may be named MINE.ZIP) with a size of
77,855 bytes and the subject line of "hey you". The email message will
say something about "I finally got my pictures scanned….. and heres like
5 or 6 of them….just download and unzip it…..
Volume Control
If your Volume Control (that’s
the one that looks like a speaker) does not appear near your clock ---
how do you put it there?
From the START button –
choose SETTINGS – CONTROL PANEL. Now choose MULTIMEDIA (or SOUNDS AND MULTIMEDIA
in Windows ME). On the GENERAL tab, look for a checkmark box for SHOW SPEAKER
ICON ON TASKBAR.
Delete Your E-Mail Messages Without Reading Them
Send your junk e-mail directly
to the Trash folder by filtering all incoming messages that are not addressed
to you (in the TO: or the CC:).
To do this in Netscape,
under EDIT – MESSAGE FILTERS – set the filter to send the Message to the
Trash folder if your email address is not contained in the TO: or the CC:
field. To delete them from the Trash folder without opening them, under
FILE – EMPTY TRASH FOLDER.
I can not figure out how
to do this in Outlook Express.
