                                                             Creating a Web Site

Need a Web Host

Most ISPs (internet service providers) offer free space for personal webpages, usually 5-20 MB.  Some have tools for building a site.  My ISP is www.earthlink.com charges $19.95 for unlimited internet access per month and allows 20MB of storage for personal Web/FTP space and other features.  If you are going to use MS FrontPage, ask your prospective webhost if they have FrontPage extension available for when you upload your website to the world wide web.

Choose a Domain Name

You may need to have more than one idea in mind in case your first choice is already used for someone else.  www.registrars.com will tell you if your “name” is available.

MS FrontPage 2000

FrontPage is about $150.00.  Whether you’re creating a personal or business Web page, this will give you tools that you need to create and manage or maintain your site exactly the way you want it to be.  It provides a wizard to assist or just give you ideas for your custom designed site.  FrontPage has a WYSIWYG (“What you see is what you get”) format with easy-to-add hyperlinks, graphics, thumbnail images, frames, search forms, table of contents, hit counters, and numbered or bulleted listing.  We will look at some of these components today.
