Computer Info – October 30, 2002

This Week’s Meeting

We will install Netscape 7.0 and look at the setups for it.     Always time for questions and answers.

Netscape 7.0

Print Preview is back !!!!!  And it allows you to view the output in portrait and landscape modes to see which way it fits better.

How about saving an entire web page (including all of the graphics).  It has never been easier.  When you choose FILE – SAVE PAGE AS – it will save the html web page and all of the graphics associated with it.

You can EXPORT your address book again.  This was a feature they took away in Netscape 6.0 and 6.2 – why – we will never understand.

Virus --- JS.Exception.Exploit

This is one of the viruses that we received this week – so we thought that we would tell you a little about it.

JS.Exception.Exploit is an exploit that allows Java applets to run arbitrary code on unpatched versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer. In many cases, the applet may perform simple actions, such as changing your Internet Explorer home page. However, it can also be programmed to perform actions such as a mass mailing, as in the case of VBS.Loding.A@mm, or to create file on your computer that perform almost any malicious action.

Send To A Friend – Method of sending web page

Have you read the fine print of a Web site’s privacy policy and noticed how little it actually promises.  We will never reveal your private details with any third parties, except”.

When you see a button on a web page that is labeled “Send To A Friend” – NEVER type in the email address of a friend – because the site may sell your friend’s address to spammers.

Instead – select and copy the web address (the URL – uniform resource locator) and paste it into an email message to your friend.

Send To

Did you know that if you create a special folder for storing your favorite pictures or your documents or maybe an item you plan to email to someone – you can then use the SEND TO to place a copy of your file there.

To place this folder on your SEND TO menu, go to the START button and choose SEARCH (or FIND).  Search for files or folders and type in SEND TO.  When the search has found the folder – double-click on it to open it.  Now in a blank area of the window, choose NEW – SHORTCUT.  Click on the BROWSE to locate the folder and finish the wizard.

Now whenever you wish to place a file in the folder, you can right-click on it and choose SEND TO.  Your folder will now be listed there.
